Does your business comply with the Fair Work Act?

1 July has come and gone and one of the biggest challenges for employers is to keep up with the changes in laws surrounding employment. The new Fair Work Act means serious fines can be imposed on employers who do not comply.

Employers should conduct an audit of their payroll, employment contracts and policies to ensure compliance. If employers are unsure, they should seek help from a professional who is proficient in the area of employment law.

Watkins Tapsell has a dedicated team of employment and workplace law practitioners able to assist you to ensure you are compliant with the new Fair Work Act.

Tiana Daly – Partner
With over 10 years legal experience, Tiana Daly heads up our Workplace Law team and is able to advise on the Federal and State industrial systems, constantly keeping up-to-date on daily changes within our industrial relations laws.

She acts in relation to all employment issues including documentation, managing the employment relationship and termination issues. Her work represents both individuals and commercial businesses.

Devanand Saraswati – Senior Solicitor
Deva works with a broad range of clients, from employers wishing to ensure that their relationships with their employees are correctly documented and structured, to individuals who are looking for advice in relation to their personal employment agreements or situations.

Deva’s background in commercial business provides her with valuable experience in ensuring businesses and individuals have documentation that reflects their employment requirements.

It is more cost effective for an employer to get it right before Fair Work Australia prosecutes or employees take action for non-compliance.

Not sure if, or to what extent, your business complies with the Fair Work Act? Take 3 minutes to complete our online survey! This survey will help you to identify the areas in which you will need to address in order to avoid heavy fines from Fair Work Australia. You will also go in the draw to win a
$200 Westfield Voucher!

Able Hire Kirrawee

Building Industry Night

Watkins Tapsell, together with Able Hire Kirrawee, hosted its Building Industry Night in June.

Rain was not a deterrent for over 30 representatives from local Sutherland Shire businesses.

Congratulations to Andrew Froude from Trudecon Pty Ltd – the lucky winner of the Makita Cordless Drill.

Watkins Tapsell would also like to take this opportunity to thank Paul and Jeff from Able Hire for their involvement and we look forward to future partnerships.

For further information, or to express an interest in coming to our next Building Industry Night, contact Courtney Honey (Marketing Coordinator) on (02) 9545 7268.

Does a mistress have rights?

As published in the St George & Sutherland Shire Leader – 18 May, 2010

New de facto laws came into force on 1 March 2009. The new laws declare that de facto couples will be treated in the Family Court in the same way as married couples.

As a result of the changes to the law, there is a risk that cheating spouses may leave themselves and their partner vulnerable to claims by mistresses for income support and/or a share of the assets of the marriage/relationship. This is particularly so if a child is involved. Read more
